UPDATE: New Frozen 3 Release Date 2025 At first glance, Disney's Frozen 2 seems to put an end to the adventures in Arendelle. Or does it? Frozen 2 was released in November of 2019, and it instantly became almost bigger than the original. Fans are already wondering about a continuation of the films. So today we're going to try to answer two questions: "Will there be a Frozen 3?" and, if so, "When?" Read on to find out!

Frozen 1 & 2

Let's just talk strictly about numbers for a moment. Box office numbers. Because that's a huge factor when movie studios think about making a sequel. Frozen, released in late 2013, grossed an enormous $1.28 billion, instantly becoming one of the highest grossing animated movies of all time. Then, six years later, in 2019, Frozen 2 made even more; $1.45 billion at the box office. Remember, we're not even talking about the animated shorts like Olaf's Frozen Adventure or Frozen Fever. Just the films. That, plus the merchandise Disney sells off of the movies, proves the Frozen franchise to be a lucrative one. The key, interesting fact is that Disney made more off of Frozen 2 than the original Frozen. This leads us to be able to answer the next question...

Will There be a Frozen 3?

Judging from the difference in box office revenue between the first and second film, you can see an increase. Even if there's the same increase in a supposed Frozen 3, we can guess the box office would be somewhere around $1.62 billion. Business wise, it would be a smart move. However, the ending of Frozen 2 seems to tie it up so nicely. So how does Frozen 3 deal with that? What the third Frozen movie has to do is simply create a conflict that [FROZEN 2 SPOILERS] draws Elsa out of the enchanted forest, where she now lives, and draws Anna out of Arrendale. It would not be that hard to create some new problem (maybe Hans has returned???) for them to solve. Plus, the co-director, in reference to another movie, has said, "Never say never." There seems to be a huge likelihood for Frozen 3.

If So, When?

Looking at the fact that it took Disney Animation Studios six years to make a sequel to Frozen, we probably won't be looking at that long away. Definitely less than six years. So, right off the bat, we know Frozen 3 will be arriving before 2025. We also have to take into account that Disney has other projects they want to work on. As an example, later this year there is an upcoming animated movie called Raya and the Last Dragon coming out. Disney also likes the November release date for Frozen, and it has worked well for them in the past. With all of this in mind, we can take a fairly precise shot at answering the question: When will there be a Frozen 3? By our estimates, Disney fans can be ready November 2023 for a follow-up to 2019's Frozen 2. This gives them enough time to make it and enough time to release other animated movies they are planning.
